Ride-Hailing Brands Make Waves on Vietnamese Women's Day: What Does Social Data Reveal?

From artist collaborations and exclusive promotions for women to emotional stories about family, ride-hailing platforms adopted a range of approaches for Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20. However, a campaign's visibility on social media depends not only on brand-published content, but also on its ability to drive engagement and activate participation across relevant stakeholders.

According to Kompa's Social Listening analysis of more than 255,000 discussions related to Grab, be, and Green SM from October 1–21, 2026, conversations about Vietnamese Women's Day were heavily concentrated toward the end of the observation period. The data also highlights the role of partner ecosystems, engagement mechanics, and content distribution in amplifying campaign reach.

Three Brands, Three Communication Approaches

Grab: Combining Multiple Layers of Communication to Expand Touchpoints

Grab deployed a range of activities targeting different audience segments. Its collaboration with HIEUTHUHAI brought entertainment into the campaign, while promotions on GrabFood and GrabMart connected the holiday message with everyday service needs. Activities dedicated to female drivers and promotional support from partner brands further expanded the campaign's presence on social media.

One notable takeaway is that communication reach does not come exclusively from official channels. When restaurants, beverage chains, and partner brands actively publish promotions linked to the ride-hailing platform, the brand gains opportunities to reach partner communities without having to produce all the communication content itself.

be: Combining Promotions with Interactive Experiences

For be, service promotions, interactive activities, and the “pumpkin carriage to pick up the princess” experience booth, developed in collaboration with Tea.joy, created a youthful and visually engaging approach. Rather than simply delivering celebratory messages, the brand incorporated the holiday into activities that encouraged users to participate.

The data suggests that incentivized engagement mechanics are an important factor to consider when evaluating campaign performance. However, to generate sustained momentum, individual activities need to be connected through a consistent communication narrative rather than producing only short-lived spikes in engagement.

Green SM: Leveraging Emotion and Expanding the Service Experience

Green SM adopted an emotion-driven approach through a short film about the relationship between mothers and daughters, a “rose-themed ride” activity in collaboration with Vincom, and initiatives for female drivers. The October 20 message was extended across multiple service touchpoints, from transportation to flower and food delivery.

This approach allowed the brand to connect its services with stories of care and sharing. However, an emotionally resonant idea does not automatically generate organic reach. Content also needs distribution mechanisms, sharing opportunities, or user participation to extend beyond the brand's initial communication channels.

Social Listening Reveals Three Lessons for Marketers

First, timing influences the ability to capture attention.

From October 1–21, 2026, approximately 54% of discussions related to October 20 occurred during the final six days, from October 16–21. On October 20 itself, discussion volume was approximately six times the daily average recorded during the first half of the month.

This pattern highlights the need for marketers to balance early campaign launches that build awareness with increased activity during the peak period. Launching early is not a problem, but brands need a plan to sustain interest so that their content does not lose visibility before the key occasion.

Second, partner ecosystems can become a source of communication amplification.

One notable finding is that much of the October 20 discussion around the leading brand did not originate from its official fanpage. Instead, content from restaurants, beverage chains, and partner brands made a substantial contribution.

This introduces a different perspective on campaign evaluation. Rather than focusing exclusively on posts and engagement across owned channels, marketers should also monitor external sources of discussion. Building collaborative communication mechanisms with partners can help brands expand their reach and tap into existing community networks.

Third, creative ideas need amplification mechanisms to drive organic spread.

Incentivized engagement activities can generate substantial comment volume, while on-site experiences help build emotional connections with the brand. However, both approaches need to be connected with digital content and sharing incentives to achieve broader communication impact.

Stories about female drivers also represent an underexplored opportunity. Although brands have introduced appreciation initiatives, these stories have largely remained within driver communities. Developing content for mainstream audiences could help brands connect social value with the service experience.

From Discussion Data to Campaign Performance Measurement

The October 20 campaigns demonstrate that communication effectiveness cannot be fully evaluated through fanpage activity or creative execution alone. Marketers need to consider the timing of discussion, contributing sources, user reactions, and the amplification potential of individual activities.

This is where Social Listening plays a role in communication measurement: providing an end-to-end view of social media conversations, helping brands identify what drives attention, monitor consumer sentiment, and uncover optimization opportunities.

Through its Social Listening and social data analytics solutions, Kompa helps businesses turn online conversations into evidence for campaign evaluation, enabling data-driven marketing decisions rather than relying solely on isolated engagement metrics.

As campaigns become increasingly diverse in their formats and touchpoints, measurement capabilities do more than help brands review past performance. They also provide a foundation for designing more effective campaigns in the future.
